Event: Monumental Trails Day

Dec
09

What: This volunteer trail work day is part of the Monumental Trails Program, a partnership between the Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance and Friends of Organ Mountains – Desert Peaks.

Volunteers will meet at the Sierra Norte trailhead on Dripping Springs Road. We will work until about 12pm but anyone can show up or leave as they wish. Trail work will consist of brushing and drainage control at the Sierra Norte section and signing at the Vado location. No experience is needed. Tools, water, and instruction will be provided. Please bring snacks, water bottle, and any other personal items you need to be comfortable and safe on the trails.

When: Dec. 9, 2017 8am-12pm

Where: Sierra Vista Trail – Sierra Norte Trailhead and Vado Trailhead. Please RSVP at the contact below if you want to help at the Vado location.

Directions: To the Sierra Norte trailhead: from the intersection of Univesity and I-25, follow University Dr. east towards the mountains for approximately 5 miles. The name of the road changes from University Dr. to Dripping Springs RD. You will see a sign for the Sierra Vista Trail when you pass Tortugas “A” Mtn. Continue on Dripping Springs RD. until you see the Sierra Vista Trail on the south side of the road. Follow the gravel road to the end where the trailhead is located.

To the Vado trailhead: from Las Cruces, take Interstate 10 south/east towards El Paso. Take exit 155 and turn east. Continue straight on CR B19 through the traffic circle and past the rock quarry. After approximately 2 miles, turn left onto a diagonal, dirt road. The trailhead will be a big gravel parking lot on your left. Please RSVP at the contact below if you want to help at the Vado location. We will also be carpooling from Las Cruces.
