“If you’re the dedicated training-log type, it’s time to mark Saturday, May 25, as your date for the Ft. Bayard Wilderness Run. On the other hand, if you’ve fallen into the sort of bad habits I’ve adopted, you might want to put down the Washington Post, get off the couch, & do unspeakable things to your body in an effort to get it race-ready in exactly two months.
Hopefully the Ft. Bayard Wilderness Run is aging better than most of us. It will be 48 this year, but you can expect much of the same vibe from the race as in years past. Even the price is staying the same. Maybe we’ll get some ornery weather to spice up the race, or maybe a pack of frightened javelina will charge the 13K leader like they did Old Yeller. Anything can happen on that course. But count on the same well-marked coyote trail you’ve run in the past.
Stay tuned this week for further race notifications, including our online Race Roster link & a snail-mail reg form intended for Luddite, old-school harriers. For now, just mark your calendar for 8 AM sharp on May 25, when the bugle blows for the 48th annual Ft. Bayard Wilderness Run.
