National Public Lands Day – September 26, 2015
The Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance joined Friends of the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument, Groundworks Dona Ana, Boy Scouts of America and the Bureau of Land Management – Las Cruces District to celebrate National Public Lands Day and do some trail work.
Trail work was done on the Dripping Springs and Crawford trails. Erosion was fixed and vegetation was cut back from the trail and sitting areas. Lots of hikers, enjoying free entry into these beautiful public lands, passed as we worked on the trail. Afterwards there was a cookout for all the volunteers with food provided by the Friends. So great to meet some new people in the trail community and see what great work we can do in a morning.
Collaborating with local organizations and volunteers is what SNMTA is all about. We hope to see you at the upcoming trail days. We will continue collaborating with the Friends and BLM for events in October, November and December. More details will be posted as we continue to plan these events. The tentative dates are below:
October 17 – Dona Ana Mountains mountain bike trails
October 24 – Trackways National Monument hike and trail work on the SST trail
November 21 – Sierra Vista Trail work day
December 19 – TBD
